Sightseeing and More in Millsboro
Nestled in Millsboro is a unique museum—the only one of its kind in the entire state of Delaware. Dedicated to the Native American tribe known as the Nanticoke Indians and the Nanticoke Nation, this museum is the only Native American museum in all of Delaware. Rentals in Millsboro has the Nanticoke Indian Museum which gives visitors a glimpse into the history, heritage, and culture of the Nanticoke Indian tribe, including their role and interactions with early Colonial settlers in America. With only a nominal admission fee of $1.00 for children and $3.00 for adults (and free admittance during the museum’s annual powwow on May 14th each year), this low-cost family-friendly attraction makes for a fantastic outing during your stay in Millsboro.
Cupola Park is a pleasant park for shoreline fishing, picnicking, boating, and outdoor events along the Indian River. It’s also just a short walk away from the tax-free shopping district and mouthwatering restaurants of downtown Millsboro, such as Millsboro Bazaar, Georgia House Restaurant, and Blue Water Grill. Another place where you can go fishing, boating, and crabbing include the crabbing pier next to Whitecaps Café along Indian River Bay.
If you’re more of an active sightseer and would rather get an invigorating workout while seeing the sights, look no further than the Southern Delaware Heritage Bike Trail. An extensive one hundred and thirty-mile trail that weaves its way through Millsboro, Milford, and Milton, among other towns, the seven communities that line this trail have historic buildings and sites to visit. Some considerations: this trail is best suited for bike riders that are comfortable riding in traffic, as it’s an on-road trail. Additionally, you don’t have to ride the entire loop, nor ride it all at once; our advice is to space out your bike journey over the course of your stay.
Millsboro is also replete with historic homes, farms, schools, and other buildings. Visit places of local historical and cultural significance, such as the Robert Davis Farmhouse, the Harmon School, the Isaac Harmon Farmhouse, the Indian Mission Church, the Indian River Archeological Complex, and Warren’s Mill.
